Using Insulated Supports To Prevent Condensation On Cold Pipelines

Jul 01, 2026

Condensation is common on cold pipelines when warm and humid air touches a cold surface. It may first appear around pipe supports, clamps or exposed metal parts. These areas are often ignored during installation. But once water gathers there, insulation can become wet. The coating under the support may also start to rust.

Using quality insulated supports prevents condensation on pipes. The support places an insulation block between the pipe and the steel saddle. It also helps keep the outer insulation surface more even at the bearing point. When the pipe support is not designed for insulation, a cold bridge may form and water may stay around the clamp.

The support should match the pipe outside diameter and insulation thickness. It should not squeeze the insulation until gaps appear. For outdoor cold lines, workers also need to check sealing edges, bolts and coating after installation. If water can enter the joint, the support will lose part of its insulation effect over time.

Cold pipeline supports are often used for LNG, chilled water and low temperature process lines. The exact material depends on temperature, pipe load and project drawings. Before ordering, it is useful to confirm pipe size, support height, base hole distance and whether the upper clamp must be removable. These details help reduce repair work after start-up.
